At the center of this story is Mario Duplantier, Gojira’s drummer. Alongside his brother Joe, Mario grew up in the South West of France, falling in love with the power of the ocean and the rhythm of the waves on the Landes beaches. Pierre-Louis also grew up nearby, in Hossegor — known as the capital of surf business in France. For him, metal and bodyboarding were always intertwined: since the early days of bodyboarding, heavy riffs have been the soundtrack of countless iconic videos, matching the sport’s intensity, power, and spirit of rebellion.
